Ep116 Album ArtUniversity of Utah

Recently there has been some debate on whether the Utah fight song “Utah Man” should be changed to be more gender inclusive. Read the Salt Lake Tribune article here.

Here are the lyrics to “Utah Man”:

University of Utah Fight Song with lyrics!!! I am a Utah Man, sir, and I live across the green,
Our gang it is the jolliest that you have ever seen.
Our coeds are the fairest and each one’s a shining star,
Our yell, you’ll hear it ringing through the mountains near and far!
Who am I, sir,
A Utah Man am I!
A Utah Man, sir,
Will be ’til I die.
Ki-yi!
We’re up to snuff, we never bluff, we’re game for any fuss.
No other gang of college men dare meet us in a muss.
So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky,
We’ll fight for dear old crimson for a Utah Man am I!
Ki-yi!

Are these lyrics sexist?

College Basketball

2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship

The UCONN Huskies defeated the Kentucky Wildcats in the championship game on Monday. Following the win, Shabazz Napier made some controversial comments. Was he out of line? Was that the right time and place to take a stand?

NCAA

There has been a lot of talk recently on whether college athletes should unionize and be paid. This is a really convoluted issue but we try to wade through it as best as we could.

Do you think players should be paid?

Listener Feedback

Twitter

Thanks to our good friend Matt Quinney (@Matt_Quinney) for weighing in on the Jamal Williams/Honor Code issue we discussed last week.

Also, blacksheep – we’re guessing that’s a pseudonym – (@benrunsmiles) weighed in on the issue with:

While we respect blacksheep’s viewpoint and appreciate his response, we couldn’t disagree more.
