Hey, there, first off congrats on the baby and being a brand new father, that’s freakin awesome James!! Second, I have listened a few times to your podcasts and love what you guys do, fun shit right there. Second of all, I just needed to vent a little about the Utah v. BYU game last night, I am a Utah fan and that shit was embarrassing and a disgrace to the proud and rich utah basketball program (pretty much has been for the past few years, basically since Bogut). I am not discounting the ability and talent of Jimmer, but come on, play a little D on him, I woulnd’t have even let him touch the ball, deny him from getting it full court. Everything goes through him or is created by him. Utah was put to shame from Jimmer, you know he is going to get his 20 or 30 points, whatever, but if you are gonna lose to byu, lose to byu, not to Jimmer. It’s a rivalry game for god’s sake!!!! It was like watching the scout team play against byu, especially in the second half and the turnovers and shooting. All of this is a direct microcosm of the coach, losing the players last year and having to put together a JV team this year. Boylen is doing a horrible job, they can’t play any defense and god knows they have to offense. There is no continuity to their offense. It’s like dribble down, penetrate, everyone else watch, and try and score. No inside presence what so ever either, you know Foster and Washburn aren’t going to do anything for you offensively. Sorry for the ranting and complaining, but hell, it has just been horrible. From things I have heard, I really doubt Boylen will be around next year. K, I’m done, I am bored and just watched sportscenter and got aggravated again. I think it’s great what you guys are doing, keep it up and again, congrats buddy and best wishes!!!

Thanks for the comment, Bowster. James is busy with his newfound paternal duties so I will pass along the well wishes.

As a Utah fan I totally feel your pain. That was a hard pill to swallow last night. The truth is Jimmer is for real and he has lived up to the hype in every single situation thrown at him. It was a one man show last night and the rest of the BYU squad was inconsequential.

How do you defend a player that great? There’s only one way I know of, and I don’t think it would be very effective. You foul him hard every time he shoot, drives or – if necessary – touches the ball. Make him a little nervous and maybe – just maybe – he will come back down to Earth. Or maybe all you can do is shake your head and take it like a man.

I actually thought in the first half Utah did a great job defending him. They contested every shot, didn’t give him much room to work, and forced him into some really tough shots (most of which he made). But for all that effort, he still managed 32 points…IN THE HALF. How utterly demoralizing.

My biggest concerns for the Utes lie on the offensive side of the ball. It seems like Boylen has taken off the leash completely and let the guys try and go one-on-one on nearly every possession. That’s what leads to the high turnovers and low shot percentage. Its ugly basketball.

I could go on and on. We’ll talk more about this on the next episode.

Thanks for listening and for the kind words!
